ALRIGHT, SO, WHO ARE YOU GUYS?
Well hello there! Our name is Theatre Hera and we are a Toronto-based theatre company established with the purpose of producing fresh original works by amateur playwrights and performers!
ANOTHER THEATRE COMPANY? WHAT MAKES YOU DIFFERENT?
Good question; our mandate focuses on creating opportunities for artists by providing an unrestricted, flexible community to develop new works. By fostering the collaboration of various forms of artistic expression, such as performance and visual arts, THC intends to promote, enhance and develop the creative culture in the city by giving fresh original artists an uncompromising outlet to produce their talents.
Our collective is currently comprised of local artists from multiple artistic backgrounds who are committed to crafting and cultivating a free space where any and all ideas are welcome. Together with our production team, we are working hard to bring you not one but TWO original productions written by up and coming Canadian playwrights. Our team presently consists of:
Melissa Williams – Artistic Director/Producer/Director of SALTY BACHELORS
Erika Stark – Stage Manager/Production Assistant/Creative Design
Grace Fournier – Co-Founder/Costumes
Josef Ollivierre – Co-Founder
Charlotte Tavenor – Director of Public Relations
Ryan Lazarro – Director of Marketing/Promotions/Advertising
Chelsea Dab Hilke – Director of GRAPEFRUIT
Will Bartley – Technical Director
Samuel Bowen – Set Design/Talent
Ciaran Dyke – Creative Consultant
Katlyn Nemo - Properties Master
COOL, WHAT HAVE YOU DONE SO FAR?
Since our launch in 2013, we have brought two original scripts and one established production to the city. Written by our very own members, THE FLIGHT OF AVERY QUINT, by Grace Fournier and SWEETHEART by Josef Ollivierre were Theatre Hera’s debut productions. We have also dabbled in established scripts of World-Class Plays donning the talents of Sam Shepard and Patti Smith in the post-modern classic COWBOY MOUTH which was paired with a multimedia exhibition titled DISEASE OF PERCEPTION that featured pieces of various artistic forms created by the cast and crew of COWBOY MOUTH.
WOW! SO, NOW WHAT?
Glad you asked! Our next project is taking on the delightfully amusing talents of two Canadian playwrights and showcasing their original comedies, SALTY BACHELORS and GRAPEFRUIT and paring them in a Double Bill set to open July 22nd and run till July 26th 2015 at the Alumnae Studio Theatre!
SALTY BACHELORS, by Dylan Brenton, is a one act play telling the tale of two lifelong best friends from Newfoundland who take a breather from a 50th wedding anniversary to discuss life, death, pickles, women, and finally reveal the true reason why they've always been "eligible bachelors”.
GRAPEFRUIT, by Alastair MacKay, thrives in the realm of ludicrous circumstance and follows the story of Maxim and Diane Vale; a perfectly normal, well ordered couple who harbour a citric secret. Caught in a plot thick with blackmail, Curtis Worthlesston threatens to expose the perilous secret that could ruin their perfectly normal, well ordered lives.
SOUNDS AWESOME! WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP?
Producing original work is one of our collective’s main focuses, and this double bill is sure to provide barrels of laughs with a week of wonderfully witty entertainment. Unfortunately, in order to sufficiently put off theses plays, we need funding and quite a bit of it. Being artists ourselves, our bank accounts aren’t always rich with resources, so we need your help! We're setting up this campaign to help us fulfil our productions budget of $4,500.00 which will fund a variety of aspects necessary to house, build, and market the show. We want to provide our performances not only to Toronto's theatre community, but to anyone who would rather spend a night out being entertained by live action instead of their normal Netflix queue.
HEY NOW! WHAT EXACTLY AM I PAYING FOR?
We're doing a “Keep What You Raise” campaign, with a goal of $4,500.00 to help us with many of the costly necessities we encounter while producing theatre. Here is a list of what your contribution will help us achieve!
• Rehearsal Space to get our actors and crew in shape
• A roof over our heads for the performance week
• Designing and creating Costumes
• Designing and building Props
• Constructing our world; the Set
• Transportation of found materials to build the Set
• Providing funds for our director and talent
• Providing a bar for you our patrons to enjoy
• Getting the word out with Advertising for our performances
• Printing materials such as posters, tickets, promotional material & more!
WOW, THAT’S A LOT! ARE THERE ANY INCENTIVES FOR ME?
We are extremely grateful for every donation, but besides our undying gratitude, we also have several perks for you lovely people as a thank you for helping us take on a project that we care so deeply about. We're doing a "Keep What You Raise" campaign, so every dollar you donate helps us get closer to bringing these two fantastic scripts to life. We cannot thank you enough.
